DALLAS (CN) - A Dallas attorney sued a former client, claiming she defamed him by tell another attorney he committed legal malpractice that resulted in sanctions against her. Mark Alexander sued Jaimie Davis, of Silverado, Calif., in Dallas County Court. Alexander represented Davis and others in an August 2010 lawsuit against Richardson, Texas-based Reef Securities and several of its oil and gas investment funds, Dallas County Court docket. Investors claimed the Reef entities made material misrepresentations about oil and gas investments in which they invested more than $1.4 million. Alexander says that during this time, Davis also was a claimant in arbitration before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority in California. He says he was "absolutely" not involved in the arbitration, but claims that Davis sent a letter to Dallas attorney Phillip Conley, with Conley, Rosenberg & Brenneise, claiming that she had been sanctioned because of to Alexander. Neither Conley nor his office are parties to Alexander's complaint. "Plaintiff rents office space from that law firm," the complaint states. "In that letter the defendant defames the plaintiff by stating plaintiff committed malpractice with the result being that the arbitrators in the FINRA matter sanctioned her in the amount of $136,000." Alexander claims that the allegation of malpractice is "blatantly false, malicious and outrageous." He claims that her "statement was libel per se," "Defendant's statements injured plaintiff's reputation, exposed plaintiff to public contempt, ridicule, financial injury, and/or impeached plaintiff's integrity, virtue or reputation." Alexander seeks punitive damages for defamation. He is represented by John Galvin.
