SAN DIEGO (CN) - Brandon Johnson, the University of San Diego's all-time points leader in basketball, was sentenced Friday to 6 months in prison for conspiring to fix games, federal prosecutors said. Johnson, 26, conspired to commit sports bribery by influencing the outcome of USD basketball games during the 2009-2010 season and soliciting a USD player to do the same during the 2010-2011 season, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement. Johnson pleaded on Nov. 15, 2012. Eight of the ten defendants have pleaded guilty, the U.S. attorney said. Johnson also is the all-time assists leader at USD. He admitted taking bribe money "to influence the outcome of basketball games during the 2009-2010 season while he was a member of USD's basketball team," according to the U.S. attorney. "The conspiracy profited by placing bets at Las Vegas casinos on games Johnson influenced," prosecutors said. "Co-defendant Steve Goria, who was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment in October 2012, admitted that the conspiracy profited [by] more than $120,000 from the game-fixing scheme. Johnson admitted in his guilty plea that during the 2010-2011 season, he solicited a then-current USD basketball player to influence the outcome of basketball games for bribe money." Johnson, of Jersey Village, Texas, was ordered to report to prison on May 31.
